Making an NFC keychain
Hide an NFC tag inside a keychain, sign or coaster: tap a phone and your menu, Instagram account or Google review page opens.
What you need
- A round NFC tag (NTAG213 or NTAG215; 25 mm is common, 10–40 mm is supported).
- An NFC app on your phone to write the tag (e.g. NFC Tools).
- A slicer that supports pauses: they all do.
In the app
- Choose a keychain, sign, coaster or flat 3D product with a base.
- Tick "NFC tag pocket" and enter the tag diameter.
- Convert: a hidden pocket is added inside the body and the warnings show the layer height to pause at.
Placing the tag during the print
Bambu Studio / OrcaSlicer
In the preview, move the layer slider to the given height, right-click the + and add a pause (Add pause).
PrusaSlicer
Move the slider to the layer, right-click the + and choose Add pause print (M601).
Cura
Extensions → Post Processing → Modify G-Code → Pause at height; enter the height.
When the printer pauses, lay the tag flat in the pocket (a drop of glue if needed) and resume. The next layers cover it.
Writing the tag
Write the tag with your phone before or after printing: a web address, Instagram profile, Wi-Fi details or a vCard. It reads easily through plastic; reading gets weaker on products stuck to metal surfaces.
